Thank you, thank you, Tammy! For a Slytherin, you’re a-okay. ;o) Just kidding! A.k.a., Cassandra Black sent me an AWESOME Gryffindor golden snitch pair of socks. They fit fantastically. And the matching bookmarks are perfect. Also included was a mini-sock blocker and size zero Addis, gems yarn in GREEN (I can see many mini-socks in my future…), Malabrigo lace (the yarn I’d give up chocolate for, but don’t have to b/c), chocolates, stickers, a journal, patterns for way cool socks, stitch markers (handmade??), and boneymaroneys for my pal Walker from Barky and Xena – his new Canadian Cohorts.  Tammy, I’m SO glad you liked the package I sent backatcha – thanks for posting about it.  FYI, the pattern was the William Street Socks, from Knitting Daily.  I can’t wait for Year Three!

A huge thanks also to Kimber for lending me the use of her digital camera.  Mine keeps giving me a “lens error” (grrr) so it took a week for me to get this post up – sorry for the delay, Tammy!

Three years ago today – November 13, 2004 – I opened KnitWitz.  In the last three years, the shop stretched to hold a lot more stuff and a lot more people.  Here are some pictures of how we prepared for that first day and the first month…

The first day seeing the space – before signing the lease.  Used to be a Curves.  There’s a lot less sweating when you knit.

Brother extraordinaire – helped carry in all the fixtures.

That’s Misha and my friend Anne hiding behind the yellow armoire.  Getting the slatboard installed was horrific.

Painting over 1,000 square feet of space – not once, but three times!

Finally move stock in… and out of the dining room.

See all that blank space?  Slowly but surely, it’s filled up with great yarns.

Opening day, this is how KnitWitz looked.

The old back door before it got replaced.  You could see daylight through that thing.

Even the armoire was empty – with a sign that said Lorna’s Laces was “on the way”!  It’s been the Lorna’s cabinet ever since.  See the baskets with the patterns?  Those baskets have expanded to several three-ring binders.   It’s been a FUN three years.  So much the **haven** I imagined back in 2004.  Thanks to everyone who kept coming back!
